Medical Editor @ NICE
2007 – 2012
I worked at NICE for 2.5 days/week in the Publishing department, first as a freelancer then as a member of staff. My role involved working on clinical guidelines, technology appraisals, pathways, interventional procedures guidance, the Shared Learning Database, and NHS quality standards, and writing patient information leaflets.
Senior Editor @ Remedica
2003 – 2006
This challenging and enjoyable role involved the running of up to seven quarterly medical journals at once. I began as an Editorial Assistant and was promoted three times within 18 months to the role of Senior Editor. Along the way, I was involved at every stage: commissioning, copyediting, writing, proofreading, client/author management, sales and production. In addition to my own titles, I provided editorial support for several others, at times contributing to over 80 issues per year. As Senior Editor, it was also my responsibility to guide and train new members of staff, to attend international events and to research new titles.
Assistant Statistician @ Celltech Group
1999 – 2000
This support role included serious adverse event reporting, quality control of data, developing and writing randomisation plans, statistical analysis plans and study protocols. My primary role was to analyse, interpret and present results of a Phase 2 rheumatoid arthritis study and to assist with the writing of regulatory submissions. Celltech Group is now a part of UCB Pharma.
