Tanya Tagaq lets her fury fly on Tongues, confronting Canada's ugly colonial past

Tanya Tagaq is one of the most fearless performers I've ever seen. Until now her music has largely been predicated on live vocal improvisations, but for her new album Tongues she has taken a more studied approach. She's no less free in her expression, though, and the range and rage she shows here is absolutely compelling. Several songs are adapted from poems that first appeared in her acclaimed mythobiography Split Tooth, which you should definitely check out too. Interview up on The Line of Best Fit now!
