Artists in the Arctic (📷)

I had the great pleasure to take a tour of the not-so-frozen north with eight Swedish artists who are part of a group coming together to produce new work for a festival to be held in the Arctic mining town of Kiruna in July 2021. Our journey took us through Tornedalen, a wild and storied region of Swedish Lapland on the border with Finland, following in the footsteps of a controversial Korpelarörelsen (Korpela movement), a religious sect that, by 1939, had fallen into ignominy. I can’t wait to see how the artists are going to respond – with sculpture, painting, performance, video installations and more.
